Car Loan Documents Checklist for Salaried and Self-Employed Buyers
A complete document set helps the lender verify identity, address, income, obligations and the vehicle being purchased. Requirements differ by lender, scheme and applicant, so treat this as a preparation checklist and confirm the final list directly with the chosen lender.
Core KYC and application documents
- Completed application and recent photograph where requested
- PAN or Form 60, as applicable
- Aadhaar, officially valid document or KYC record accepted under the lender’s process
- Current address proof when it differs from the identity record
- Bank statements for the period required by the lender
RBI’s KYC directions allow regulated entities to obtain prescribed identity information, PAN or Form 60, and other documents needed to understand the customer’s financial status. The exact collection method can use CKYCR, offline verification or other permitted processes.
For salaried applicants
- Recent salary slips
- Salary-account statements
- Form 16 or income-tax return when requested
- Employment identification or continuity proof where required
- Details of existing loans and monthly EMIs
Bank of Baroda’s official guidance lists recent salary records, bank statements and tax documents among common income proofs. IOB’s vehicle-loan FAQ states that salaried applicants should be in confirmed service and provide recent salary slips.
For self-employed applicants
- Income-tax returns for the period requested by the lender
- Balance sheet and profit-and-loss statement when applicable
- Business registration, professional or office proof
- Business and personal bank statements
- GST or other records where relevant to the profile
Bank of Baroda’s digital journey specifically lists digitally generated bank statements and the stated ITR forms for self-employed applicants. IOB’s published FAQ asks self-employed and business applicants for the previous two years of income-tax returns. A branch may ask for additional verification.
Vehicle and transaction papers
Keep the dealer quotation or proforma invoice, selected variant, on-road price, proposed down payment and insurance details ready. A used-car application may additionally require registration, valuation, ownership, insurance and existing-hypothecation records.
Check affordability before submitting documents
Check your indicative eligibility and estimated EMI before starting the formal application. This can help you choose a practical requested amount and identify missing information. It does not replace lender verification; final eligibility, rate, tenure, documentation and approval depend on the lender.
